The Best Government the Money Can Buy

Posted by Ştefan Alexandrescu on March 15, 2012

This is a very interesting discussion with the filmmaker who directed the documentary The Best Government the Money Can Buy, which exposes the accaparation of power by lobbyists in Washington. After the film has been released in USA, the critics have acclaimed it and the specialist have appreciated it as being a close and scaring portrayal of all the major issues which it covers. In this interview, the film director explains the importance of knowing the facts for the American citizens.

Although it may seem of not so much important issue for citizens from other countries, I think it is worth as a case study for the mechanisms of corruption and understanding how USA are really ran.

Here you have a fragment of 15 minutes of discussion between the film director and an interviewer + the trailer

Casino Jack (2010)

Posted by Ştefan Alexandrescu on September 18, 2011

Director George Hickenlooper, not much known, but the author of some brilliant other movies, takes the true story of an American lobbyist which has managed to scam tens of millions of dollars and, through his story, he creates a portrait of American political scene which will make you understand how things work in America and how laws are made.

This docudrama is also one of the best parts for Kevin Spacey (the greatest since American Beauty – he also got a Golden Globe nomination for best actor). Funny, brilliant, excellent. Great script, great acting. A true masterpiece. A movie you will love to watch again and again. Definitely, a must see.

My rating: 8 / 10 (masterpiece)

Enjoy watching it!

Iraq for sale: The War Profiteers (2006)

Posted by Ştefan Alexandrescu on July 12, 2011

Director Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films stand behind a great series of documentaries produced on actual and relevant issues.

This is the best documentary on the war in Iraq released until now and the best documentary on any war that I have ever seen in my life. I have seen a lot of documentaries about US’ wars over energy resources (especially Iraq, Afghanistan – sure hope to see soon something about Lybia) and I have read some very good books on the war in Iraq, but this tops it all.

From A to Z, you will understand why the 2nd invasion of Iraq marks not only a new kind of warfare, but also a new kind of combatant in a war: it is the first time in the known history of mankind when a Government hired a private army to colonize a country. The film depicts the horrible mockery that this whole business has been to the state of Iraq, to the American soldiers and to the tax payers. Who benefits the most out a war which has no chance of ending in our lifetimes?

How do these companies waige war against another country without suffering any consequences for their actions?

What does this new kind of war means to the world?

How is the US Army killing and making sick its own soldiers for the profit of a few?

How are the contracts assigned and what is the importance of lobby and connections?

This documentary brings into light absolotely scandalous information, at first hand and gives us a full range perspective on the implications, mechanisms and characteristics of this war.

If you would only have one documentary to choose to understand the topic of Iraq war, this is the one. A definitely must see.

Warning! While it does not depict any visual violence, the greed depicted might make you sick!

My rating: 9 / 10 ( A perfect documentary)
